Baby dedication is an essential step of commitment for the parents of the child, although the dedication of an infant has no saving ability.
The purpose of dedication is to consecrate the child to God and His purposes, and as such, it entails certain responsibilities on behalf of the parents.
The Dedication Service outlines the parent’s responsibilities and duties. It is important that you understand, as parents, what you are agreeing to do in raising your child.
You will be asked to reply in an affirmative manner to the following questions:
1) Have you committed yourselves to a life of following Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour?
2) Do you accept the responsibility of setting an example in your home of the Lordship of Jesus Christ?
3) Do you accept the responsibility with the help of the Holy Spirit, to guide, instruct and pray for your child that he/she may be led to her own personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour?
4) Do you recognize your child is God’s child, you are God’s stewards, and release and dedicate your child to god for His perfect will in their life?
Your responsibility then is clear: to provide a Godly example to your children and to attend to their spiritual needs and Christian education through regular church attendance.
