Right now, the federal government is reviewing 462 pre-budget recommendations, and two of them—recommendations 429 and 430—are especially concerning. These propose removing the advancement of religion as a recognized charitable purpose under the Income Tax Act.
If these changes go through, they could significantly impact the financial sustainability and outreach of not only churches and Christian charities but all religious organizations across Canada—including ours.
Faith-based organizations play a vital role in our communities, offering spiritual guidance, support, and outreach to those in need. These proposed changes could limit the ability of churches to continue their work effectively.
The Minister of Finance will soon decide which recommendations move forward, so now is the time to speak up!
